Why doesn't the search bar work in my Publication?

Possible reasons why the search function does not work

If the search function on the Zmags platform only finds a few or even no results, there is probably some issue with the text in the PDF. The issue could be caused by damaged fonts or because the fonts in the PDF are not properly embedded.

How can I check to see if the PDF has fonts embedded?

In order to check to see if your publication is searchable you should do the following:

1) Open Acrobat professional
2) Using the Select tool, highlight the text on the PDF and copy and paste the text into a blank text file

If the text cannot be pasted effectively into text editor or Notepad then the text will not be searchable in Zmags

How do I resolve this issue?

In order to resolve the issue you will need to export the PDF file with the fonts embedded. Our recommendation would be to use the following Adobe InDesign Presets:

1. If the text is part of an image it will not be searchable
2. The Search function also does not work in Preview Mode when using a HTML5 Viewer (functions when activated)
